It was a tiny turnout, but in the end the one with the most votes still wins and it was the UKIP candidate for councillor in Watlington ward in West Norfolk!

UKIP’s Ashley Collins won, with 179 votes. Conservative John Dobson came second, with 115, while Labour’s Emilia Rust polled 99 votes. For full story, see tomorrow’s EDP.

Thanks to John Pagett who sent out this story as a tweet!  Here’s couple of other tweets I got (along with lots of other people):

Patrick O’Flynn, the chief political writer for the Daily Express says this:

In today’s Telegraph Dan Hodges says Miliband “has handed the mantle of opposition leader to Nigel Farage”.

I think Farage does have tremendous appeal.  Look at this humorous piece about how it seems he attracts women voters.

And Andrew Percy twitted that:

Ken Clarke’s piece in the Telegraph today is the usual pro-EU tosh. Those who oppose EU membership are isolationist etc. Utter tripe.

I agree, Andrew.  Next time someone calls you a Little Englander, say no, I’m a Great Britainer!  From Britain we got trial by jury, due process, representative government and respect for human rights (and many other things).  We over here in the colonies owe you one.
